- 정연우 작가의 ‘빛, 진동, 그리고 에너지’! 화폭 위에 펼쳐지는 다이아몬드 보석의 파워힐링
무한한 우주의 빛을 그림으로 풀어낸 예술가, 연우빛의 여정이 시작된다. 그의 작품은 연우빛이라는 이름처럼 빛을 따라 떠나는 예술적인 명상의 시대를 여는 문턱이다. 정연우 작가의 그림은 단순한 그림이 아니라, 빛을 만났을 때의 찬란함과 정열이 어우러진 예술 명상의 결과물이다. 빛의 신비로운 매력과 우주의 신비, 빛의 진동을 담아낸 에너지 작품들을 통해 우주적인 풍경을 형상화하여 세상에 선사하는 그는 화려한 보석으로 빛의 향연과 진동을 표현해낸다. 내면의 숨겨진 빛과 만날 수 있는 에너지 그림들로 빛을 그려내는 것이다. 특별한 경험을 선사하게 해주는 정연우 작가를 만나 그의 작품세계를 들여다보았다. _우호경 취재본부장, 주정아 기자
정연우 작가는 어린 시절부터 ‘나는 누구인가’에 대한 근원적인 물음을 가지고 그 답을 찾아다니다가 명상을 시작했다. 그는 국내는 물론 해외, 특히 인도와 네팔에서 긴 수행의 과정을 거치면서 2012년부터 명상그림 만다라를 그리기 시작했다. 세상에서 가장 아름다운 명상이라고 알려진 예술 명상인 ‘만다라 명상’이라는 새로운 장르를 개척한 인물이기도 하다. 그의 작품은 주로 사랑, 축복, 치유, 풍요의 에너지를 명상하면서 그린 작품들이며 현실창조를 이루어 낸 에너지를 품은 그림들로 사회 저명인사들이 개인 소장을 하고 있다.
“메슬로우의 인간 욕구의 최상위 단계인 자아실현에 있어 자아를 창조적으로 표현할 수 있는 도구가 예술입니다. 명상은 自我를 찾아가는 성장의 과정인 것이죠. 예술과 명상이 함께하는 예술 명상은 명상의 궁극(窮極)을 표현하는 것으로 그 최상위 단계라 할 수 있습니다.”
대학에서 동양화를 전공하고 미술교사 출신이기도 한 정연우 작가는 2005년부터 소나무와 소나무숲을 수묵화로 그렸다. 먹을 사용한 수묵화는 흑과 백으로 내면의 힘과 역동성을 모두 표현해내며 감탄을 자아내게 한다. 이후 2007년~2009년까지 그의 그림에는 솔방울과 닮은 송과체(松果體 Pineal body; Pineal gland, 제3의 눈과 관련된 내분비기관)의 가 등장한다.
“그림을 그리면서 확장된 의식과 현실적 삶과의 통합에 대해 고민을 하기 시작했습니다. ‘나는 누구인가. 어디서 와서 어디로 가는가?’라는 근원에 대한 답을 찾기 위해 오랜 구도의 과정을 거친 끝에 내 마음을 찾아서 어디론가 떠난다고 찾게 되는 것이 아니고, 또 현실을 회피한다고 문제가 해결되는 것이 아니라는 것을 알게 되었죠. 내가 그토록 찾고자 하는 답은 바로 ‘내 마음’에 있고, ‘지금 여기 나의 현실’에 있다는 것을 깨닫게 된겁니다. 그리고 그 순간, 명상 그림인 만다라를 만나게 되었습니다.”
2012년, 그는 인도에서 한국으로 돌아와 멘토와의 만남을 통해 더 깊은 자각과 명상을 하게 되었다. 전통 만다라와 동양화 기법을 접목하면서 더욱 세련되고 현대적인 기법으로 만다라를 그리기 시작했고, 그 이후 그의 작품들은 ‘만다라명상카드’로 출시되어 수많은 사람에게 시각적 명상도구로 사랑을 받고 있다.
정 작가는 작품제작을 위해 오랫동안 미국 세도나와 그랜드캐년, 캐나다의 오로라, 영국의 스톤헨지, 유럽 전역의 미술관과 왕궁들, 일본, 중국 등 전 세계 특별한 에너지를 가진 공간들과 세계적인 작품들과 문화유산들을 직접 보고 느끼면서 그 파동과 에너지를 작품에 담는 훈련들을 해왔다. 그는 작업과정 내내 온전한 명상을 통해 순수한 빛의 에너지와 연결하고 있다.
“어두운 그림자와 고통의 삶에서 벗어나 빛을 찾아 나선 오랜 구도의 여정에서 얻어낸 빛의 만다라, 이제는 제가 만다라를 통해 빛의 여정을 가는 것처럼, 많은 사람이 만다라의 빛으로 자신이 원하는 삶을 찾아가길 바라는 마음으로 빛을 그리고 있습니다. 저에게 명상이란 내 안의 온전함과 만나는 것이며, 온전한 마음으로 빛의 에너지를 연결해서 그림을 그리는 과정이기도 합니다.”
정 작가의 작품은 작품의 에너지 포인트에 다이아몬드, 루비, 사파이어 등 최상급의 보석을 꼴라보한다는 것이 큰 특징이다. “보석은 지구의 핵심에너지라고 할 수 있습니다. 우리가 다이아몬드 반지 하나를 손가락에 끼웠을 때 저절로 어깨가 펴지고 힘이 생기고 자존감이 올라갑니다. 이처럼 보석은 에너지의 결정체이며 맑은 보석들은 정제된 에너지가 함축된 파워에너지( Power Energy)이자 스페셜 에너지(Special Energy)로 그림의 진동과 에너지를 확장시켜주는 역할을 합니다.”
“빛의 입자를 담은 컬러는 에너지이고, 무의식의 메시지입니다. 제가 과거에 사는 것도 죽는 것도 아닌 무채색의 삶을 살았던 고뇌의 시절에 내면의 응축된 에너지를 검은 수묵에 그렸다면, 지금은 형형색색의 밝고 찬란한 빛 그림을 그리고 있지요, 깊고 깊은 땅 속에서 수억만 년 뜨거운 열과 압력으로 단련된 석탄이 마침내 단단하고 투명한 다이아몬드로 변신하게 되는 과정은 제 삶의 여정과 닮았습니다.” 그가 작품에 사용하는 자연을 닮은 전통 수제한지 ‘장지’ 위에 화려한 컬러와 보석의 눈부신 빛들이 모이고 흩어지고 춤을 추면서 장엄한 스펙트럼이 펼쳐진다.

마음꽃세상&마음꽃아카데미(황수현 대표, 연우빛 정연우 대표원장)는 2011년부터 만다라명상 등 다양한 의식프로그램으로 수많은 사람들의 내면의 빛을 깨우는 명상센터다. 지난 2023년 4월, 경기도 용인 보정동 카페거리에 본원을 옮기면서 명상하는 갤러리인 ‘정연우 갤러리’를 오픈했다. 명상하는 갤러리 이름만큼 특별한 이 곳에 들어선 순간 맑고 투명한 느낌이 든다. 연우빛의 작품과 함께하는 예술 명상은 빛의 작품을 바라보고 연결하면서, 내면의 빛의 스위치를 켜도록 안내한다. 마음의 상처가 치유되고 복잡한 감정이 재구성되고 정서적 안정감을 찾아가면서 자신이 원하는 마음의 지도를 찾아갈 수 있는 공간을 선물해준다.
“아주 오래전, 저는 제 마음이 너무 고통스러워 명상을 시작하면서 운명처럼 만다라를 만났어요, 어두운 그림자에 쌓여있던 저는 내면의 빛을 찾으면서 제가 얼마나 아름다운 존재인지 알게 되었고 그림자나 고통에 집중하기보다 아름다움과 빛을 인식할 때 아름답게 살아갈 수 있다는 것을 배웠습니다. 빛은 사랑입니다. 만다라가 주는 빛의 에너지와 진동을 통해 내 안의 사랑과 빛을 만나시길 바랍니다.”

It represents the harmony between myself, the sky, and this world, where everything supports each other. It portrays awakening through love in all spaces, past, present, and future. The powerful pure vibration originating from the center of the mandala, the natural clear diamond, is connected through 50 clear diamonds along the yellow ray, which symbolizes the self. The yellow ray expands into eight lines representing new creation, beginnings, and luck, while a total of 401 diamonds, including the center, amplify the powerful energy of light.

The journey of artist Yeonwoo Vit, who translates the boundless light of the universe into art, begins. Her works mark the threshold of an artistic meditative era, as her name 'Yeonwoo Vit' implies a journey along the path of light. The paintings of Yeonwoo Vit, far from being simple drawings, are the result of artistic meditation that harmonizes the brilliance and passion one experiences when encountering light. Through her paintings, she captures the mystique of light and the universe, creating cosmic landscapes through vibrational energy works. She portrays the spectacle and resonance of light using dazzling gems, painting the light hidden within our inner selves. From a young age, artist Yeonwoo Vit grappled with the fundamental question of 'who am I' and embarked on a journey to find its answer, eventually leading her to meditation. She underwent extensive periods of practice, not only in her home country but also in places like India and Nepal. It was in 2012 that she began creating meditation paintings known as 'Mandala Meditation.' She's a pioneering figure in the realm of art meditation, particularly known for developing a new genre known as 'Mandala Meditation,' often regarded as one of the most beautiful forms of meditation art. Her works primarily revolve around themes of love, blessings, healing, and abundance. They are imbued with the energy of manifesting reality and have found a place in the private collections of prominent individuals in society.
"In the pinnacle of Maslow's hierarchy of human needs, self-actualization, art serves as a tool for the creative __EXPRESSION__ of the self. Meditation is a process of self-discovery and growth. When art and meditation come together, it can be considered the highest form of meditation, representing the ultimate stage in meditation."
Graduating with a major in Oriental painting and having a background as an art teacher, artist Jeong Yeonwoo began painting pine trees and pine forests in ink wash from 2005. Her ink wash paintings, utilizing the contrast of black and white, capture both inner strength and dynamism, leaving viewers in awe. From 2007 to 2009, pineal glands resembling pinecones started to appear in her artwork. As she painted, she began contemplating the expansion of consciousness and the integration of practical life. She says, "In my search for answers to fundamental questions like 'Who am I? Where do I come from, and where am I going?' I realized that the answers weren't found through a long and complex journey of searching, nor by escaping from reality. Instead, I came to understand that the answers I sought were right within my own heart and in my present reality. It was in that moment that I discovered Mandala meditation art."

In 2012, she returned to Korea from India and, through meetings with mentors, delved even deeper into self-awareness and meditation. It was during this period that she began to merge traditional Mandala concepts with Oriental painting techniques, giving birth to a more sophisticated and contemporary approach to Mandala art. Since then, her works have been released as "Mandala Meditation Cards," serving as beloved visual meditation tools for numerous people.
To create her works, Artist Jeong has spent significant time visiting various locations worldwide, including Sedona and the Grand Canyon in the United States, the Northern Lights in Canada, Stonehenge in the United Kingdom, as well as art galleries, palaces, and cultural heritage sites across Europe, Japan, China, and more. During these journeys, she personally experienced the unique energies and vibrations of these places and incorporated them into her artworks. Throughout her creative process, she remains connected to pure light energy through continuous meditation.
"From a long journey of seeking light, venturing away from the shadows and pains of life, I've discovered the Mandala of Light. Now, it's as if many others are embarking on their own journeys through Mandala, hoping to find the light they desire. Meditation, for me, is about meeting the completeness within myself. It's a process of connecting with the energy of light with a whole heart, which I then translate into my art."
The prominent feature of Artist Jeong’s work is the incorporation of top-grade gemstones like diamonds, rubies, sapphires, etc., into the energy points of her creations. She states, "Gemstones can be seen as the core energy of the Earth. When we wear a diamond ring, for instance, our shoulders naturally straighten, we feel empowered, and our self-esteem rises. Gemstones are crystallized energy, and clear gemstones are power energy, a special energy that amplifies the vibration and energy of the artwork."
"The colors filled with particles of light represent energy and carry messages from the subconscious. During a period of inner turmoil, when I felt like I was neither living nor dying, I expressed my condensed inner energy in black ink. But now, I am creating colorful and brilliant light paintings. The process of coal, forged deep beneath the earth's surface through millions of years of intense heat and pressure, eventually transforming into solid and transparent diamonds, mirrors my life journey." On the traditional handmade paper known as "Jangji," which resembles nature, she gathers and scatters vibrant colors and the dazzling light of gemstones, creating a magnificent spectrum that dances across the surface.

The vibration of light started from my origin, resonating and expanding with complete love, shining brightly. The origin's love, originated from the center of the mandala, encounters the powerful vibration of the natural diamond, creating a powerful whirlpool of light. The vibration of light, starting from the center, is expanding through the seven universes. The six pink wings, symbolizing a complete world, are repetitively connecting and expanding, possessing a powerful energy structure. The sacredness within me is awakened with complete love, coexisting with this world.
